Yangmingshan National Park

Yangmingshan National Park

One of Taiwan’s nine national parks, Yangmingshan is known for its dormant volcanic mountains (including Mt. Datun), hot springs, streams and vents that cover the mountainsides with eerie vapor. Located a half hour by car from both Keelung and Taipei, it is an easy escape from the big cities. There are hiking and biking trails through the 11,455-hectare (28,300-acre) park, as well as a nature center, and it's a top bird- and butterfly-watching locale, with 100 different species of birds and more than 160 species of butterflies.
