If you're looking for a thoroughly untouristy place to grab a quick bite to eat, Xurreria Terrón is your haven for true Barcelona culture.
This tiny chocolate-and-churros haven is located in the hilly neighborhood of El Carmel, a barrio tuck up against the backside of Park Güell and home to a large population of immigrants from southern Spain.
The atmosphere at Terrón is as local as you'll find anywhere in the city. The xurreria offers seating outside on the sidewalk or inside. It has a long bar with a display case showing the latest creations, from chips to tapas to chocolate-covered churros.
We recommend the churros with chocolate. Your churros can come one of two ways -- fino, the star-shaped style your probably used to; and porras, along long tube of churro without the star shape.
Grab a table with a sugar dispenser on it...you´ll want to sprinkle your churros with the sweetener before you dip it into your chocolate.
Terrón is super-local spot, so you'll need to know a little Spanish to place your order. English doesn't work here.
