Skating in Central Park has been a favorite activity of New Yorkers since the 19th century. Until 1950, however, opportunities to skate were dependent on weather conditions and the park’s ponds freezing over. That changed with the opening Wollman Rink (which now goes by Trump Rink). The rink is a frozen gem of ice, open for skaters of all skill levels seven days a week from October to April. The best time to head there is in the late afternoon, when the twilight gold of dusk gives way to the night sky. As you glide on the ice, the setting and backdrop of Central Park South may look familiar—it's been cast in a number of romantic movies including Love Story and Serendipity.
