Every review of Kobus van der Merwe’s Wolfgat starts the same way: Booking is a must! This small, 20-seater restaurant is a foodie’s dream, and is well worth the scenic, almost two-hour drive from Cape Town up the West Coast to the idyllic fishing village of Paternoster (with its Greek, whitewashed houses and a cuteness that, if closer to the city, would be overun with tourists). Van der Merwe’s unique “strandveld” (beach bush) menu comes into its own with many indigenous ingredients. If you go in September, you'll get the bonus of seeing the West Coast National Park wildflowers in bloom.
