Wineries of Marlborough
Marlborough deserves praise for putting New Zealand on the world wine map for its stellar sauvignon blanc. It's well worth exploring the region down to the last drop, vineyard by vineyard, glass by glass (if you’re really ambitious: bottle by bottle). While the region has over 150 wineries, about 21 on the Marlborough Wine Trail have “cellar doors” with winetastings and pairings for oenophiles. You can choose to walk or drive (responsibly) from one to the next, while cycling is a popular option—and relatively easy as well, thanks to the region's flat topography.
