Wharton State Forest
Bird watchers, fishermen, and hikers who are seeking a little more land to roam than what’s available in Rancocas State Park or Laurel Acres can take a short car ride south from Mt. Laurel to reach Wharton State Forest, the “largest single tract of land within the New Jersey State Park system.” Here, one can easily get lost for days on woodland trails or among marshlands, while following the Red-tailed Hawks that soar overhead. If a day trip doesn’t seem like it would provide ample time to enjoy Wharton’s full splendor, campsites can be reserved via the park’s website.
