Whaley House Museum

2476 San Diego Ave, San Diego, CA 92110, USA

The Whaley House is located in Old Town San Diego and is touted as the “Most haunted house in the United States” by the Travel Channel. The building was constructed in 1857 by Thomas Whaley as a granary that later became a courtroom. For a time in San Diego, this was the courtroom, store and playhouse all under one roof! Next door to the Whaley House is where you sign up for tickets for the walking tour. The rooms are fitted with some of the original belongings or replicas have been made of what was known to be in the house. The house is supposed to be haunted by the ghosts from the Whaley family, some of the men who were hung in front of the courthouse portion of the house and even a family pet dog! Whether is really is haunted or not- you be the judge! Either way, it is an interesting look into how the wealthy lived in San Diego when it was just a dusty, dry town. After the tour, there is shopping and several places to eat- such as Bertas, the Cosmopolitan or in the Fiesta Del Reyes square.
