Juneau is one of the best places in the world to go whale-watching. Most outfitters ferry visitors from Auke Bay down to Stephens Passage, a 105-mile stretch of island-studded water that is an important summer feeding ground for humpback whales. You’ll watch as these surprisingly graceful giants arc their tail flukes through the air as if in slow motion, dive beneath the surface and come up to breathe. It's also a prime spot to catch orcas on the hunt for salmon and other prey.
