This is where town and campus collide to produce a gem of postmodern architecture. The Wexner Center for the Arts sits right at the junction of The Ohio State University and High Street. But the grids of the city streets and the college walkways don't line up. Therefore, Peter Eisenman as the architect of the Wexner allows both grid systems to clash and distort each other, producing a multitude of bizarre angles, hidden nooks, a staircase that leads into a glass wall and a column that dangles threateningly over the heads of visitors. References to a former armory that once occupied the site sit side by side with a permanent art installation made from shattered windshield glass. Catch an exhibition or a movie and stay for a bite at the downstairs cafe.
