We beat the heat for five restful and relaxing days this August in Westport, Washington the Washington coast. Home of the Washington fishing fleet (20% of the seafood consumed in the U.S.comes in through here), it is an unspoiled fishing town on Grays Harbor.on the Washington Pacific coast.
Highlights include wandering on the docks looking at the boats, one of Washington's few sandy beaches, a beach cliff trail, wonderful dinners at the nearby Westport Winery, and an interesting maritime museum housed in an old Coast Guard station. We loved our comfortable hotel, the :Chateau Westport, as well as the steady soothing roar of the Pacific.
Best brunch place (you must have the fresh crab omelet) is the Blue Buoy.
Those who love to fish can charter a boat as many come here to do..
Oh yes -- it is 10-15 degrees cooler in Westport than in Seattle in August..
