You Really, Really Like Me!
Horton Foote, the author of Tender Mercies and The Trip to Bountiful, says he's in love with it, and it's also the town where Sally Field starred in Places in the Heart, for which she won her "You really, really like me" Oscar. It's Waxahachie, also known as another one of Texas's own Hollywoods. Waxahachie may have come by its film fame partly because multiple Academy Award-nominee Robert Benton (screenplay, Bonnie and Clyde; director, Places in the Heart) is a local boy, but however it happened, the old town—which boast plenty of well-preserved historic buildings—has been featured in dozens of films and TV shows. First stop for set-jetters should be the Ellis County Museum, which gives away a free movie map to local film sites. In 2014, Waxahachie mounted its first film festival, with plans underway for future events.
