French emperor Napoleon’s defeat at Waterloo is the stuff of legend. But the event was indeed real, and it took place just outside of Brussels. Take a day trip to visit the battlefield itself, where you can enjoy the overhead view from atop Lion Mound and see the Panorama de la Bataille, a 360-degree painting of the battle. Then head to the town of Waterloo to visit the Wellington Museum, former headquarters of the Duke of Wellington, the battle’s victor.
