Washington Square

Columbus Day Parade
Whatever your opinions about Christopher Columbus, this is a slice of pure Americana. It's like every small-town festival parade, except that it takes place in a big, quirky city. It has all the usual elements of a parade - shriners on mini-bikes, quirky floats, waving beauty queens & military, marching bands ... and then a few random San Francisco touches, like Falun Gong, bagpipers & community bands dressed in everything from tie-dye to drag. It takes place Columbus Day weekend, 2nd weekend in October.
