Washington-Slagbaai National Park
The stunning 5,600 hectares (14,000 acres) or so that you'll find at Washington-Slagbaai today grew out of the Netherlands Antilles' first national park—born in 1969 when then-owner "Boy" Herrera bequeathed his property to the government with the proviso that the land remain undeveloped. The eventual result? Some of Bonaire's most gorgeous hiking—at the confluence of teeming bird, reptile and cactus habitats. Do at least part of the Lagadishi Walking Trail, or—if you're feeling ambitious and not too hot—the 45-minute uphill route that is the Kasikunda Climbing Trail.
