Through icing sugar dusted mountains that line startlingly green and clear Lake Wanaka, where Mount Aspire, the highest mountain outside of the Mount Cook National Park oversees proceedings, past the Cardrona ski fields, voted the best in the world, through lumpy undulating hills that are teasingly sunkissed brown despite the unseasonal Southerly blowing, over the Crown Range and elephantine crags and sheer cliffs of the Kawarau Gorge, morphing into green tussocks suddenly, deep into the Cromwell and Bannockburn basins, trees and vines laden heavy in this, the fruit bowl of Central Otago, and the wineries stomping their grapes for rich Pinot Noir, winding down sharp steep roads and cruising to cliche causing breathtaking views, and all the while wondering just why everyone is staring and snapping towards me, not me the view - that bloody beautiful view - before realising it's the polished burgundy and shiny chromed spectacular Rewaco 1800cc three-seater cruising trike in which I travel.
