Way to WalkSay you decide to follow some of "Wild" author Cheryl Strayed's steps along the Pacific Crest Trail some afternoon up in the Columbia Gorge. Thing is, that kind of activity is bound to make you thirsty at the very least, and more than likely in need of some chow. Walking Man is a great stop after pounding down some miles clawing your way out of and back into the beautiful Gorge.
Come for the beer, stay for the food. There’s always a bunch of taps pumping out the subtle and the sublime results of hops, grain and water, all ingredients incredibly good and close by. This visit found me doubling down on the hoppy double IPA. With a couple handfuls of choices, you can do their sampler and find something to love.
But there’s food! Yes, and it’s not just your typical pub grub, not that there’s anything wrong with that, but the focused menu delivers on some tasty dishes to go along with your beer(s). The Steelhead Tacos are a must along with an order of the fries, all garlicy and great. We had a pizza based on the work involved gaining and losing elevation out on the afternoon hike. It’s an easy cross over the spectacular Bridge of the Gods coming in from the Oregon side and worth the detour at the end of day in the scenic Gorge.
