Yes, those are freshly picked Zinfandel grapes sprawled dead on the ground, oh so unceremoniously. Unseen behind me is the back trailer of a semi truck on its' side. So heartbreaking , especially after tasting what could have been. IMHO this appellation region of California produces some of the best Zinfandel in the world. I have my favorites for sure, but you can't go wrong with any of the countless wineries Northwest of Sonoma, just above the Alexander Valley. Yes, you can find many other varietals growing along the hillsides here, but the Zin reigns supreme. I try to hit different vineyards each trip yet I somehow find my way to A. Raffanelli every time. Oh, and I don't leave the area without finishing the day with dinner in Healdsburg. There is much fine dining to be had for jean clad diners.
