I wanted to try something very different for my birthday dinner on my trip to Napa, and I had read interesting things about Ubuntu. A vegetarian restaurant using locally sourced produce, they also have what is usually referred to as a "head to tail" philosophy - meaning every part of the animal, or in this case, vegetable is used. This was in evidence when my salad, a riot of colors and textures, arrived. Ground nuts and roots were strewn on the bottom, mimicking dirt, and the greens, fruit and blossoms of plants were all there wrapped in thin cheese ribbons, in the most beautiful and delicious salad I have ever had. Definitely unlikely art, of both the visual and culinary kind.
