I was a part of a group in Sanqing, China, for an international talk on films. I expected beautiful, awesome scenery; but one of the experiences that warm me when I think about it is drinking tea with an elderly couple in a small mountain village nearby.
Although neither of them spoke any English, they were welcoming and made space in their small home, that was obviously more ancient than their ages combined.
They smiled and offered us tea in plastic cups; but I felt like an emissary from a distant land, sharing his first contact with a people full of historical culture and hospitality. It was a great experience.
