A stay at Villa Ganz feels like a step back in time. Tucked amid the galleries and boutiques of Guadalajara’s Zona Rosa, the 1930s mansion sits behind an elegant wrought iron gate. Inside, a candlelit staircase leads to 10 individually appointed rooms, many of which feature vaulted brick ceilings, terra cotta tile flooring, and a mix of Old World antiques and handcrafted pottery. Adding to their charm, each room is named after a lead character in celebrated Mexican author Juan Rulfo’s novels. Breakfast is served in the dining room or, if you prefer, under a giant lime tree on the indoor patio, overlooking jasmine shrubs and tropical greenery. On rainy afternoons, curl up with one of Rulfo’s novels in the salon, a cozy space dominated by fully stocked book shelves and an antique piano.
