Vila Canoas Favela
A Bright Spot in a Brazilian Favela
This yellow wall adorned with mosaic images of butterflies and flowers is part of the community playground in the Vila Canoas favela – one of many shantytowns in Rio de Janeiro. While the Vila Canoas favela isn’t the poorest or the most dangerous, the working class families in this community do struggle to get by. This bright yellow wall perfectly suits the playground as it’s the favela’s bright spot in less than ideal living conditions.
