Go back in time to meet the Viking warlords who founded Veðrafjorðr (which means “windy fjord”), or Waterford, Ireland’s oldest city, in 914 C.E. Start the King of the Vikings journey by entering a replica Viking house, complete with a thatched roof, which is set in the ruins of a 13th-century Franciscan friary, and meet some real-life Viking characters, including a Viking comb-maker. Next, put on the virtual reality helmet and go on a journey back in time to ride the waves aboard Viking longboats, see the invasion up close, and meet Viking leader Reginald. The VR experience lasts about 30 minutes and is limited to eight people, so it books up quickly. If you’re keen for more Viking experiences, you can see a nearby replica of a Viking longship and climb Reginald’s Tower on the banks of the River Suir.
