Some kids (and adults) dream about running away and joining the circus and others about the Wild West. But have you ever dreamed about sailing on a tall ship? You can make THAT dream come true! The Tall Ships visit Ventura Harbor Village and Channel Islands Harbor just about every year.
We were at the ships at 4pm (for a 5pm sail) and took time to walk around the Hawaiian Chieftain and the Lady Washington. If you have never seen a Tall Ship up close, they are gorgeous old vessels with exposed wood and big white sails and are nothing like what you see in harbors today, definitely a trip back in time and more than worth the visit to see, explore and hopefully take a sail.
As we sailed out of the harbor, we were treated to the sighting of a few seals that swam alongside, as well as more than a few kayakers and a small boat or two. And the sunset that hinted to be magnificent … well, it was and becoming increasingly more beautiful as time went on.
The crew members were very knowledgeable and seemed to really enjoy their jobs. In every part of the sail they showed amazing teamwork while making sure we not only enjoyed the trip, but appreciated every aspect about these wonderful Tall Ships.
I kept thinking … what a terrific opportunity for kids to experience history all the while having a great time and memories they won’t soon forget. The kids on our trip had huge smiles on their faces the entire sail and even while the cannons boomed!
