Once my grandmother said: there's no place like Venice. She had taken a world cruise after her retirement and spoke - still 20 years later - of the most enchanting place in the world. After all my travels I'm not sure Venice is the most enchanting but I have to admit, it's one of the most captivating. Because of my grandmothers' stories I wanted to see for myself...so off we went - my husband and I - for our honeymoon to see if we would be enchanted. We were not but what did happen was an experience that captivated us. Food, wine, art, narrow streets between centuries old buildings. Transported to another time... we could see it! We could understand in the disconcerting silence of the channels what it would've been like to live here a long time ago . Even looking back, I feel I have to look way back to a point of reference that doesn't even belong to me but to stories. Perhaps grandma was right...maybe that's the enchantment!
