If you're a West Coast vegan, there's a good chance you're heard of the Veggie Grill. From its Mac-n-Cheese to its "Chickin" tacos to its chocolate pudding -- everything it serves is 100% plant-based. No meat, no eggs, no dairy. This restaurant chain is mostly a Southern California phenomenon, but there is one in Northern California located in San Jose's Santana Row. My daughter's a vegan and I'm not, and we sometimes have trouble deciding where to eat, but Veggie Grill works for us. I don't like eating fake meat (Veggie Grill's "meat" is made from soy, wheat and pea proteins), so I usually order the portobello mushroom sandwich and a side of sweet potato fries. It's a "casual dining" type of restaurant, where you stand in line to order and a server brings your food to the table. Keep in mind that parking can be an issue (it usually is at Santana Row), but once you get to the restaurant you should have no trouble finding a table. There are plenty inside and outside too, overlooking the small Park Valencia and an outdoor stage.
