If silent meditation isn't your thing, head to Vendanta Temple, where locals gather nightly at 6 pm for a complimentary Hindu singing meditation called Arati. The convent of four nuns retreat to a secret balcony to sing, chant and lead a guided 15-minute meditation, often in sync with the sunset. Nestled in the Montecito foothills, Vendanta's 45-acre property, including its 60-year-old temple, overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The temple also offers Sunday spiritual talks, scripture classes, and pujas (special worship services) as well as a bookstore which, in addition to religious texts, stocks an impressive array of incense and music.
