VanDusen Botanical Garden
This 22-hectare green space in the Shaughnessy neighborhood is an assemblage of stylized gardens with connecting paths. Different sections spotlight plants from ecosystems as diverse as a Louisiana swamp and the coastal Mediterranean. Evergreen azaleas bloom around a Korean pavilion, and a fascinating labyrinth made of pyramidal cedars includes an observation terrace. The orchid-shaped visitor center has garnered attention for its striking design and for the sustainable building practices that went into making it.
