Barging the Canal du Bourgogne
A friend had always wanted to do a barge trip through France's wine country. After much research, we discovered a great company called Special Places Travel that helped us select the right region, and more importantly the right barge. Since we were Pinot Noir fans, Chip from Special Places recommended the Burgundy region of France, and the exquisite barge, Prosperite. Eight of us chartered the barge for a week this July. It's an incredible way to travel through this part of the world, and we all loved it. Starting from Vandenesse-en-Auxois in the Cote-d'Or region of Eastern France, working our way north easter to the city of Dijon. Over the course of six days we would travel at such a relaxed pace. We found ourselves biking to quaint villages along our route; walking along the Canal du Bourgogne to admire the beautiful lock houses we would pass; visit the areas best wineries and chateaus; and learn about how the region and it's people and culture have been shaped through the centuries. All the while, the incredible Prosperite staff taking such excellent care of us.
