Fête de la Saint Blaise
In the early 20th century the jasmine and rose harvesters of Valbonne started growing servan grapes, a very special variety that can be freshly preserved in water-filled jars. Production has gone down as the town now focuses on cultivating high-tech industry, but the tradition remains and is celebrated in the medieval village on the last weekend of January at the Fête de la Saint Blaise. A farmer’s market of regional specialties rolls in to town as local chefs gather, offering cooking lessons, workshops and tastings. The communal vineyard is opened for public visits and wine or hot chocolate is served as the sun begins to set each day.
