Albanian AlpsThe Albanian Alps will transport you back in time. This off the beaten path destination is full of adventure. We had to take a ferry for part of the trip and one of our lodging reservations was not available when we got there. We eventually found space at another guest house, the hospitality of the locals is amazing and many will let you camp in their yards if no rooms are available. Expect the minimal for your lodging options. The mountains are beautiful and the river that runs along the road is a welcome stop on a hot day.
The food is amazing, I recommend the fried corn bread with feta and the tomatoes are the best in the world.
We did a two hour hike to a waterfall which was great but once we came across hikers doing a day hike between Valbone and Thethi, we regretted not making time for this. A link for this hike is provided below.
