Upper Geyser Basin
Half of the world’s geysers are in Yellowstone. Of course there’s Old Faithful, the most famous geyser in the world. There are also more than 500 other geysers. Check out Old Faithful—and pop into the visitor center there for a multi-platform, general geyser education—and then head for some of the park’s less crowded geysers. Riverside Geyser, a cone geyser on the bank of the Firehole River in the Upper Geyser Basin, erupts for 20 minutes every five-and-a-half to six-and-a-half-hours. Riverside shoots a 75-foot stream of water across the river. Sometimes you can spot a rainbow in its mist. Also in the Upper Geyser Basin is the tallest predictable geyser in the world, Grand Geyser. Grand erupts every seven to 15 hours, shooting water as high as 200 feet.
