On a morning hike, my feet were securely on the ground, but my neck was craned up watching the paragliders that filled the skies of Garmisch. A day later, after casually discussing this life-long dream with my travel buddy, I found myself with a parachute on my back making my way to the top of the mountain to fly down.
After summoning the courage to run down the side of the mountain, I (with the help and experience of my instructor, Mike) glided through the chilly skies for about 40 minutes, savoring the views privy to only birds and planes. Zugspitz, Garmisch's tallest peak stood to our left, and the world below looked like a minuscule, make-believe village.
With cold and shaky hands, I managed to snap this shot with my iphone, not only for the memory, but also for proof!
UP Paragliders fly daily, weather permitting. You can find the team on the landing field near the Kreuzeck gondola, or book in advance through Edelweiss Lodge and Resort.
