In the 1930's the UPitt dean of students was enraged to discover that although a great college, many nearby residents had no clue where the University of Pittsburgh campus was. So as a monument to UPitt and to the ideal of knowledge, he built the 'Cathedral of Learning' to mark the location of the campus. Today, students can go there to study, and on the bottom two levels, rooms with themes of various countries surround the study area.
