There are a handful of tour agencies in Istanbul brave enough to venture off the normal “top sites” tourist trail. Unison Travel and Events is one such pioneer in the local travel industry that caters to travelers seeking a unique perspective of the city. With Unison, hobbyists curious about the city’s architectural, artistic, and green-space gems are offered over 10 tours.
Three tours give gardeners the opportunity to dig deep into the history of Istanbul’s imperial gardens, cemeteries and memorials and the gardens of the Princes’ Islands with Gursan Ergil, a green thumb academic, author and famed landscape designer.
Turkish architect, Sinan Logie leads four architectural tours that explain the different facets of Istanbul’s historical building designs. Topics include uncovering the layers of Istanbul’s past and, in another tour, exploring the signature landmarks of 16th century chief Ottoman architect, Mimar Sinan.
As well as bellydance half-day experiences and tours, Unison has also worked with Trici Venola—an exceptional American artist—to create three art and history full-day walking tours. Topics for these include "Bones of Byzantium," "Tulips and Trade," and "Harbor Grandeur, with Minarets." Check out the Unison Travel and Events website for more information on these tours with a difference.
