I will always remember the first time I visited Underdog, a place where you can get brats on gluten-free buns, vegan dogs, and tater tots in what's called MidI - middle Irving Street - in the avenues of the Sunset neighborhood. A vegetarian friend took me to Underdog on one of the late summer days when the fog is non-existent and nearby Golden Gate Park is packed with residents and tourists flocking to sun-soaked environs. We ate hotdogs and laughed in the tiny dining area. And, I've been going back ever since. My favorite is the Let's be Frank beef frank on a gluten free bun with home made sauerkraut and organic ketchup.
