Elephant watching in Uda Walawe National Park, Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka's Uda Walawe National Park doesn't just have wild elephants; it has hundreds and hundreds of them. All living, eating, and caring for their young in their natural habitat.
On a recent visit, everything about the gentle giants captivated me: their never-ending eyelashes, the rhythm of their steps, their larger than life noses and swaying ears. I encountered baby elephants too, frolicking with their mothers in thick jungle brush.
The temperature may have been stifling and the humidity practically unbearable, but the opportunity to watch these mammoth creatures up close and personal was well worth any discomforts.
