Where East Meets West in TurkeyTurkey has always held some mystique for me. It’s a country of two halves; to the east it borders the Middle Eastern states and is rich in the history of the Ottoman Empire. To the west the ever growing city of Istanbul thrives as a cosmopolitan hub in the Mediterranean.
It is this combination of ancient surroundings and modern innovation that inspires me most. On arrival in Istanbul, I’ll spend time walking beneath the hallowed domes of the Hagia Sophia and gathering my thoughts in the byzantine splendour before indulging in a cocktail in one of the many fashionable hotspots overlooking the glittering Bosphorus. Venturing beyond the city I’ll turn off the beaten track and climb in the Rize Kaçkar mountain range or find peace on the sands around Bodrum. And from bustling city to desert landscape, I am in awe.
There is something extremely satisfying about being caught up in the cultural whirlwind of Turkey and each time I visit, I am amazed by something different; entranced by something new. And there’s no guessing what it’ll be. I am only sure of one thing - your travels through this country of contrasts will be as unique as my own.
