Prickley pears: a legacy from the new world.
Tunisians, call it "HINDI" as for Indian, that's the name the Andalusian refugees called it , simply because it came from the new world and it has a strong connotation with the Americain inhabitants, Indian pears or figs that's the name still the Tunisians and the north Africains still use. What you do not know, may be is that prickley pears is a wide variety of colours and a delicacy that you should not miss during your next visit to Tunisia. Oh one last thing to remember: if you want to taste it, it ripens starting from September and it lasts for a couple of months. I forgot to mention : it is delecious !!!
