Tulum is not in Cozumel, but it makes a perfect day trip, especially for travelers interested in Maya culture and archaeology. As the only Maya site that overlooks an ocean, Tulum is an unmissable attraction and makes for stunning photo ops. The main feature of the 13th-century site is El Castillo, which was built as a watchtower; it sits on a tall cliff. If time permits, see if you can find a local cenote, a natural pool formed by a sinkhole, where you can take a swim to cool off.
