Standing on one of the Earth's five major circles of latitude is a Namibia highlight.
The Tropic of Capricorn marks the southernmost latitude where the sun can be directly overhead. It passes through Australia, Argentina, Botswana, Brazil, Chile, the Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Mozambique, Madagascar, New Caledonia, Paraguay, Pitcairn, South Africa and Tonga making the first landfall on the Sandwich Harbour in Namibia.
Driving through the desert between Solitaire and Walvis Bay, The Tropic of Capricorn is marked by a sign on either side of the C14 road. We parked up and joined other travelers in taking pictures to mark the moment, hopping between either side of the Tropic and placing a country sticker on the sign!
