Tower of the Americas

739 E César E. Chávez Blvd, San Antonio, TX 78205, USA

Locals and tourists alike love making their way to the top of of the Tower of the Americas. Most go straight up to the observation deck, but those in the know stay for dinner or drinks. The Tower of the Americas is the 750-foot-tall icon of San Antonio. Built for the 1968 World’s Fair, it was, for a time, the tallest observation tower in the United States. While it may have lost that title, it’s still among the most recognizable landmarks in Texas, and the views of San Antonio are among the best you’ll find. As a kid visiting with my family, I was terrified of making my first elevator ride to the top. I was convinced I would fall off, even if the observation deck was enclosed. In the following years, I made several more visits to the top. The views and the expanse of the city never got old. I’ve been to the top of a lot of towers in a lot of countries, but few are as special to me as the Tower of the Americas.
