Tommi’s Burger Joint

Bíldshöfði Bíldshöfða 18, 110 Reykjavík, Iceland

This casual burger spot opened in 1981 and has become a source of national pride for its simple but delicious creations: handcrafted patties of top-quality beef served on a freshly baked bun along with crunchy lettuce and a mix of condiments and toppings (mayo, tomato, mustard, ketchup). It might not sound like much, but it almost certainly had a hand in forcing the city’s McDonald’s to close in 2009, and it still means a lot to many people. In fact, its mix of if-it-ain’t-broke-don’t-fix-it recipe and diner-style interior has now expanded to London, Berlin, Copenhagen, and other cities, making the Tommi Burger an internationally beloved phenomenon.
