Tokya, a new sushi lounge and raw bar in mid-town Manhattan, offers a truly unique sushi experience. Celebrity sushi maker Eiji Takase is fusing together Japanese, Latin American, and American flavors to create innovative combinations that will appeal to everyone from traditional sushi lovers, to sushi novices. I, myself, have never been a huge fan of sushi, citing textural issues and "too fishy" flavorings, but everything at Tokya was perfectly balanced and delicious with lots of fresh vegetables, citrus fruits and South American sauces. Particular standouts on the menu that showcase Takase's flair for fusion were the sashimi avocado salad with carrot-ginger dressing, tuna tartare with yucca chips and a sweet red wine vinegar soy sauce, and the Kanzan Snow Crab specialty roll with spicy scallop-shrimp tartare.
The restaurant also turns into a lounge/nightclub later on in the evening with two levels, a DJ spinning in the middle, and 360 image projection on the walls.
