A pleasant walk from Taiohae leads to one of the island’s traditional gathering places. Follow the road toward Taipivai in the Pakiu Valley for about 1.2 kilometers (0.75 miles) until reaching a dirt track leading another 0.8 kilometers (0.5 miles) or so to Tohua Koueva. This communal site with a paved esplanade is today filled with contemporary stone carvings, including a small moai that was donated by the people of Easter Island, set amid banyan trees and flowering plants.
