A tlayuda is like a big tortilla, only crunchier, though not as hard as a tostada. Perhaps it would be easier to compare it to a flat bread, a pizza of sorts, smeared with mashed black beans, melted quesillo (also known as Oaxaca chesse) and bits of chorizo or tasajo (beef jerky) on top.

At la Tlayudería, you can have tlayudas with your choice of toppings, that range from chicken or pork chorizo to fried and salted grasshoppers. As for beverages, just ask for a mezcal or a michelada with worm salt.
