The eclectic architecture in this part of the city has created a patchwork of bright colors and textures, with cheery houses in rainbow hues. Starting at the shores of Lake Tjörnin, walk the city's oldest streets, some of which date back to the 1760s, to Austurvöllur, the site of the understated Icelandic parliament building and the world's oldest continuous democracy.
