So you’re longing for true wilderness? You only have to travel as far as the north of Västergötland to Tiveden. With its numerous nature reserves and landscapes of giant boulders, deep, soft moss, grottos, and beautiful lakes, Tiveden is a region that really deserves to be called wild—even wolves are starting to make a reappearance.  In the summer, thousands flock to Lake Fagertärn to see the famously rare red water lilies. Tiveden National Park is an inaccessible forest that inspires legends about goblins, fairies, and bands of highwaymen. People have never lived here, although they have come to take advantage of the forest’s resources, such as logging, making charcoal, or hiding from the law. Today it offers all kinds of experiences, from canoeing in total serenity to hiking steep trails.
