Located on the border between Perú and Bolivia, this is the highest lake in the world and a mystical, fascinating place. Legend has it that Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, the sons of Inti the sun god, emerged from the waters of Lake Titicaca to found the Inca Empire. It is certainly true that this place is surrounded by amazing views. The water's surface is dotted with forty-two floating islands made from the totora reeds that grow in the lake. The larger islands like Uros and Taquile are each home to about ten families, while smaller islands may only house two or three.
