Tirana & Skanderbeg Square
A mere 50 kilometers from Durrës, the Albanian capital, Tirana, is anchored by the massive Skanderbeg Square, with the Et'hem Bey Mosque and its adjoining clock tower symbols of the city. The National Museum of History covers everything from antiquity to an exhibition devoted to native-daughter Mother Teresa. A cable car takes you in 15 minutes up to the 1,070-meter summit of Mount Dajt for stunning views and a walk among pine and beech woods.
