Lygon Street (also known as Melbourne’s Little Italy) is fine for your standard spaghetti puttanesca but, if you’re seeking a truly perfetto plate of pasta, you can’t beat this CBD upstart. An intimate, slightly industrial take on a traditional trattoria, Tippo 00 is dominated by a large, open kitchen, where chef-owners Andreas Papadakis and Alberto Fava create simple, ingredient-driven pastas using classic techniques. The menu changes seasonally, but a few star dishes like the squid ink tagliolini and gnocchi with braised duck are almost always available—and not to be missed. Just be sure to book well in advance, as tables are limited and highly coveted.
